Freshness You Can Taste

"Recently Mercury/Triloka artist Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra released a remix EP of songs from the Shiva Station album. The ambient remixes gently lift Jai Uttal's semi-traditional grove-infested Indian pop right off the planet where "world music" resides - augmenting the already excellent music with tasteful twists and console control.

With the funky sonic space legend Bill Laswell in the Shiva Station mix from the beginning, one might wonder who could really add anything. The worthy champions are Talvin Singh and newcomers Sunkist.

Singh is featured with two versions of Uttal's "Malkouns", adding cold electric flavor in the first mix and warming up the sweet spots on his ambient mix. However, the orginality and musical grace of Sunkist's "Guru Bramha" remix is really hit hardest. I can't recommend it heartily enough."
